Charuru 2013 Free Medical Camp
The Village Trust Fund (TVT) held its 7th annual Medical Camp on 19th October 2013and it was a huge success. 1,853 patients were attended to and on the same day TVT delivered wheelchairs, tricycles and other apparatus to the persons with disabilities.
The measurements of the apparatus delivered on 19th October at the TVT offices in Meru, had been taken during the previous medical camp. Production of the apparatus for the People with Disability (PWDs), who were seen at the Charuru medical camp will be commenced as soon as funds are available and delivery dates will be communicated through the telephone numbers they provided.
TVT management wishes to convey sincere appreciation to all partners and supporters for the generous contribution by way of medical supplies and finances to support the logistics of this philanthropic event. Kianjai, Free Medical Camp Report
The Village Trust Fund and Tigania West Constituency held its 6th annual Medical Camp on 26th May 2012 and it was a huge success.
On behalf of TVT board of trustees and the member of Parliament of Tigania West Constituency, TVT management wishes to convey sincere appreciation to all partners and supports for your generous contribution by way of medical supplies and finances to support the organization of this philanthropic event.
This report highlights the main achievements and lessons learnt for your attention. Free Medical Camp in Meru on 25-26 May, 2012
The constituency of Tigania West covers an area of 386 km2 and boasts an approximate population of 160,000. The constituency has eight government health centers, namely Miathene, Mbeu, Kunene, Kimachia, Mituntu, Mutonjuri, Uringu and Mweronkanga. Facilities in these health centers are poor and their distribution uneven, subjecting patients to travel for long distances to reach the nearest health centre.
Staff shortage is also a serious problem in the health centers, while drugs and medical equipment are inadequate. Transport and communication is a problem as all these health centers become inaccessible during the rainy season, especially by the elderly. These factors contribute to a high incidence of sickness in the constituency and consequently, a decline in labour productivity, resulting in increased poverty levels.

Health Related problems of the rural Villages
Due to high poverty level, demand for free medical camps in Tigania has been on the rise. Since 2008, TVT, in partnership with the local government and other development partners, has been organizing annual free medical camps in the district, which have gone a long way in complementing government’s efforts to address the health concerns of the region. The free medical camps have brought affordable healthcare, free health information to the community and enabled identification of the common healthy problems of the community. With the assistance of the Lion’s Club of Nairobi, over 90 local residents have had their eyes operated at the Lion’s eye hospital in Nairobi, to remove cataracts and correct other disorders. Many other partners have contributed to the success of the medical camps as listed under the note of appreciation to supporters.
