25th May, 2018 is a day which will stay in the memories of the pupils, parents and teachers of Kiremu primary school for a long time. The community was truly grateful to TVT for their concern of the education of their children. TVT donated text books for classes 1-8 and sanitary pads for all the girls in the school to last for 5 months. Some of the girls who normally receive monthly periods were in class 5 and in the age bracket of 11 and 12 years, which means that about half of the girls in Kiremu primary school were in need of sanitary pads. Kiremu is one of the poorest schools in Tigania East in Meru in terms of both infrastructure and students performance. With the support of text books from TVT students and teachers promised to work very hard and improve their last year performance.
The school is in the semi-arid part of Meru County and therefore during the dry season most students are not able to attend classes due to lack of food. The parents therefore requested TVT to start a feeding programme for students as a way of keeping the students in school. TVT came to know of the Kiremu primary school through one of the students from Kiremu who is under the TVT programme of the last mile, which supports orphan girls in standard 7 and 8.
Donation of books to Kiremu primary school was made possible through the generous support of Educators without borders from South Korea, who have been partnering with TVT to support education as a way of fighting poverty since 2013
TVT is appealing to well-wishers to donate food and clothing and support production of reusable sanitary pads as a way of supporting education for Kiremu pupils.
